OpenAI API
This plugin sends data to OpenAI’s API servers to generate content. When you use any content generation feature, the following data is transmitted:
- Your article topic, title, and outline
- Any custom instructions or style preferences
- Research data gathered for the article
This data is sent when you click “Generate” or run a workflow.

Serper API (Optional)
If you enable web research features and provide a Serper API key, this plugin sends search queries to Serper’s servers. The following data is transmitted:

OpenAI API

Installatie
- Upload the
ai-ghostwriterfolder to the/wp-content/plugins/directory - Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
- Navigate to AI Ghostwriter > Settings in your admin menu
- Enter your OpenAI API key (get one at platform.openai.com)
- (Optional) Enter your Serper API key for web research features
- Configure your default content settings (tone, length, model)
- Start creating content!

What API key do I need?
You need an OpenAI API key from platform.openai.com. This is required for all content generation features.
Which OpenAI models are supported?
The plugin supports GPT-4o, GPT-4o-mini, and GPT-3.5-turbo. GPT-4o-mini offers the best balance of quality and cost for most users.
How much does it cost to generate articles?
Costs depend on the OpenAI model and article length. Approximate costs with GPT-4o-mini:
- Content plan (5 articles): ~$0.02
- Single article (medium length): ~$0.05-0.10
- Batch generation (5 articles): ~$0.25-0.50
GPT-4o costs approximately 10x more but may produce higher quality content.
Do I need the Serper API for the plugin to work?
No, the Serper API is optional. Without it, research steps in workflows will be skipped. The core content generation features work with just the OpenAI API.
Can I customize the writing style?
Yes! You can:
